As part of the Assurance chain all First Purchasers are required to ensure the hauliers used to collect milk ex-farm and transport it to sites for either processing or manufacturing are members of the Dairy Transport Assurance Scheme (DTAS)
 
The scheme has its own set of standards which members and their sites must comply with along with a governance body, whose role is to bring about harmonisation of processes in the sector.
